Keeping busy

Aaron had to take a State Ethics exam this morning. He has to pass it to be an "official" lawyer. He has been faithfully studying all week- which means we had to keep busy to keep sane. I decided to be brave and buy some beautiful material to make a dress for Caroline. If I ever finish it, I'll let you know. On the other hand we are also preparing for our road trip. The official destination is Las Vegas, but we will stop in Salt Lake and Zion's national park along the way. (Okay it's not really 'along the way.') We will be in the car for over 30 hours total. Anyone have any advice to keep Caroline busily entertained in the car? Any special tricks shared, besides videos and candy, would be greatly appreciated!

  1. With Brooklyn, I bought fun little toys at the Dollar Store, and wrapped them up. Whenever she started getting restless, I would give her a present to unwrap. And then she would play with that toy for awhile. . . good luck, it can be stressful.

  2. Buy her a brand new coloring book and crayons. I like the "unwrap" a present idea. That's a lifesaver for me. And, Morgan loves to sing Primary songs, so we just sing and sing and sing... Also, Magna Doodles are great because she can draw and erase and you can't lost the pen! We have a little travel size one. Good luck! Enjoy your trip!

  4. Last car trip with Ryleigh she had her Leapster in hand at all times.... get a few new games and she was ready to go, now she has moved on to the Nintendo DS that she can't go anywhere without... You could make a book ( like draw a few pictures on paper and tie them together ) of things you know you will see along the way like big mountains or birds, etc. and have her try and find them as you drive along.

  5. We're huge fans of stickers. Buy a bunch and let her stick them on a coloring book or just all over herself! Magna Doodles are awesome too and they have cheap ones at Wal-Mart for under a dollar (in their cheap junk toy section, usually by th bikes). We love those because Cameron keeps breaking them no matter what they cost (I guess that you're not supposed to jump on them...)
